The forum, hosted by Fiji's Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, brought together high-level policymakers and regulators from across the Pacific region. The event received generous support from Australia's Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, and Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
The PRFP-18 Forum addressed critical regional challenges through specialized sessions on:
1) Navigating 5G deployment challenges and opportunities in the Pacific
2) Building sustainable connectivity models, highlighting successful Vanuatu and Fiji initiatives
3) Strengthening submarine cable connectivity resilience across the Pacific
4) Advancing digital inclusion through capacity building and skills development
5) Latest developments in satellite technologies and services.
Since 2009, the Policy and Regulation Forum for Pacific has served as the premier platform for addressing ICT policy and regulatory issues common to Pacific nations. This year's forum included a specialized Satellite Workshop conducted in collaboration with the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA), providing insights into global regulatory frameworks and practical implementation approaches.
Tonga's participation underscores the Kingdom's commitment to regional cooperation in advancing digital infrastructure and ensuring all Pacific citizens benefit from improved connectivity and digital opportunities.
The APT Policy and Regulation Forum for Pacific is a key sub-regional activity of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity, attracting expert participants from across the Pacific region annually to address shared telecommunications and ICT challenges.
