24th August, 2018 The Council of Europe (CoE) continues to develop an approach to judicial training for the development of information and communication technologies towards the Pacific Region including Tonga.

The Kingdom of Tonga through the Ministry of Justice will be hosting this year’s Advanced Judicial Training Course on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence for Judicial Officers of the Pacific Region through the GLACY+ Project at Tano’a International Hotel, Nuku’alofa from Monday 27th – Thursday 30th August, 2018.

This training brings together representatives from the Pacific Region including Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and other islands that are part of the PILON Network including Cook Islands, Fiji and Kiribati.

With national trained trainers now being able to deliver the courses both within the country and in other regions, Tonga’s judicial officers need to know and understand the nature and evidential implications of cases of cybercrime, as well as the available legal instruments and international cooperation tools.

The four-day training will focus on supporting the integration of the topics of cybercrime and electronic evidence into the curricula of judicial training institutions in the Kingdom of Tonga and furthermore encourage the preparation of broader judicial training strategies on these issues and would assist the participants in fulfilling their roles effectively.
