“Let us plant more trees” A.C.S.E Project Raising Awareness to importance of planting trees in National Climate Change Awareness Week

14th August 2018 EU – GIZ Adapting to Climate Change and Sustainable Energy (ACSE) Programme housed in the Department of Climate Change takes to its project to primary schools in the Hihifo District for tree planting program during National Climate Change Awareness Week.

The primary schools included in the tree planting program were GPS Kanokupolu, GPS Kolovai and FWPS Kolovai. A delegation from the Department of Climate Change accompanied the Director of Climate Change Mrs Lu’isa Tu’i’afitu – Malolo the ACSE team in support of the outreach program.

The project has been working towards increasing resiliency to the impacts of climate change and sustaining livelihoods of coastal communities in the Hihifo District.

Activities in progress from ACSE programme include its Education and Awareness Program to Hihifo schools, youth and communities an trainings. Major activities soon to be implemented, are Kolovai seawall construction, foreshore strengthening in ‘Ahau and Mangrove Replant in Fo’ui, Ha’avakatolo, Kolovai and ‘Ahau.
