18th July 2018 The CEO for MEIDECC Mr. Paula Pouvalu Ma’u welcomes the UNICEF’s first Pacific Ambassador, Pita Taufatofua in a special program hosted by Climate Resilience Sector Project (CRSP) under MIEDECC, at Climate Change Conference Room, this morning.

Pita Taufatofua is famous for representing Tonga in the Sporting World and has brought the issues of small island nations to the awareness of the world through his dedication to sportsmanship and understanding.]

His entrance to the Rio Olympics in Tongan National Costume was sensational!

He has competed in Taekwondo Martial Arts in Rio 2016, in Winter Sports in Korea in 2018 and who knows what he may achieve in Tokyo in 2020?

But did you know he is also an Ambassador for UNICEF ?

And that UNICEF has a policy on Climate Change?

Pita gave a talk highlighting the struggles taken over 20 years to become an Olympian. And the lessons learnt to then be able to repeat this process in the Winter Olympics.

It highlighted his work with Climate change and as a UNICEF Pacific Ambassador. From it, people will be able to take elements of success and perseverance and apply them into their own life.

The UNICEF Ambassador, urged the Staff of the Ministry of MEIDECC to keep dreaming and believe in themselves.

“If you dream of something, you have to go get it, no one else will get it for you and always believe in yourself. Reward doesn’t come by itself you have to earn it”

Pita visited Tonga as part of his role as the Pacific Ambassador for UNICEF.
