GCF Tonga Readiness Programme: Strengthening Engagement with Department of Energy

28th May, 2018 The Tonga Green Climate Fund Readiness and Preparatory Support Program (GCF-RPSP) under the Department of Climate Change, MEIDECC delivered a half-day training with the Department of Energy staff in their main conference room at Otto Building Level 4.

The training focus was on ramping up their knowledge on the background of the fund and its components. This training opened with a welcoming speech by the Director for Energy Department, Dr. Tevita Tukunga, highlighted the importance of this training to the future improvement of their work, and the benefit toward potential projects for renewable energy in Tonga.

Dr. Netatua Pelesikoti Taufatofua, the short-term consultant for the Tonga GCF RPSP introduced the GCF PMU team before facilitating the training focused on developing a country program for Green Climate Fund aligned to national priorities under the Tonga Strategic Development Framework and the Revised Joint National Action Plan (JNAP) on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management.

The training was very successful and the Department of Energy hopes to work in close collaboration with the Tonga GCF-RPSP Unit under the Department of Climate Change in achieving the goals of Tonga’s Renewable Energy Roadmap.
