Four new tractors and 50 chainsaws to boost Tonga’s agriculture sector

23rd May 2018 The Ambassador of China to Tonga His Excellency Wang Baodong, handed over a donation of 4  tractors and 50 chainsaws to the Minister of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries (MAFFF) Hon. Semisi Fakahau, at the head office in Ma’ufanga this afternoon.

H.E. Baodong said China is very pleased to help in pushing forward the social and economic development of agriculture in Tonga.

“We know agriculture is one major economic pillar for the Kingdom and vast majority of the Tongan people earn a living on agricultural related sectors, we know that it’s an urgent need for all  farmers  and we are always happy to provide agricultural products.”

He also said that more tractors will be donated to Tonga in the near future.

Minister of MAFFF Hon. Fakahau expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Government of Tonga for China’s on going assistance.

He stated that the donation will help assist the ministry in building the agriculture sector from the damages caused by Cyclone Gita.

The equipment are from Dongguan Gaungdong Province in China.
