Fatal crash in Ha’ateiho

26th February, 2018 Police attended the scene of a fatal crash in Ha’ateiho (‘Atele) at around10:00pm Saturday 24 February 2018.

Three men have died as a result of this fatal crash and one woman is in critical condition.

A Chinese man, Mr. Xiang Zeng (22), was confirmed to be recklessly overtaking other vehicles while traveling in the easterly direction on Taufa’ahau Road, he swerved on to the sidewalk and when he tried to return to his lane, he crashed on to an oncoming car heading west.

The car travelling west was driven by a 41-year-old female from Lapaha, who is still in critical condition, while her husband, Sosefo Loloa (37) died on impact and the other passenger, Fangufangu Mana Latu (35) of Haveluloto passed away at Vaiola Hospital, less than 4 hours later.

Mr. Xiang Zeng passed away at Vaiola Hospital at 6:42am Sunday 25 February 2018.

Police are appealing for everyone to please drive carefully; three people have died as a result of reckless and dangerous driving by one driver.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, most drivers do a great job and we congratulate them for making sound decisions when they’re behind the wheel. It’s the mistake and poor judgment of the risk takers who put the lives of the innocent in danger.”

Police extend their sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased.

Police investigation are on-going.
