02nd February, 2018 More than 20 participants from line ministries, stakeholders and private sectors participated in the half-day Stakeholders’ Consultation Workshop at the Basilica Conference Room, Nuku’alofa this morning.

The workshop aimed to discuss a project prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) following a request from the Tongan government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food.

FAO Consultant, Ms. Anne Woodfine said the main aim of the project is to assist subsistence farmers to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

“This project aims to address the needs of Tonga, so this is an opportunity for line ministries of the government, stakeholders and the private sector to come together to contribute and agree on ideas that we are putting forward to the Green Climate Fund for funding” she added.

FAO Technical Officer, Mr. Viliami Fakava said comments from the participants will be included in the proposal before submission to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

After today’s consultation workshop, a concept note will be drafted before presenting it to the GCF for approval and to be processed in details as a full time project.
