PNG Minister for Sports, visited Tonga in responding to the PM call for help for Pacific Games

2nd February 2016 TONGAN The PNG Minister for National Events, Sports and Tourism Hon. Justin Tkatchenko headed a delegation of Government Officials who visited Tonga for four days since 30th January, 2016.

This is a respond to a visit by the Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva to the PNG in the last two weeks seeking help in preparations for the Pacific Games since Tonga will be hosting the 2019 Pacific Game.

The Hon. Minister yesterday with the rest of the Delegations was able to conduct a site visit to Teufaiva Stadium and other areas.

National Stadium is one of the Sport’s facilities that is really needed to be upgraded according to the Hon. Minister Justin Tkachenko

He also had the opportunity to discuss matters with various representatives of agencies, from government and private sectors.

Meanwhile he outlined three important things that a country must have for a successful Pacific Games are time, money and sustainable facilities.

The result of this visit will be confirmed before the end of the year on what PNG could do to help the Government of Tonga.

PNG is in good hands in assisting Tonga with the upcoming 2019 Pacific Games. This is due to PNG hosting the last Pacific Games which is last year.
