Prime Minister Announces new Cabinet Ministers

04 January 2011.  MEDIA RELEASE. After the process of consultations, the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, has recommended to His Majesty King George Tupou V, the appointment of the Ministers of the new Government. The Cabinet Ministers commence today, Tuesday 4th. January, 2011, at their respective portfolios.

In the selection of Ministers, consultations were given to the representatives of the Nobles, the people, the various Districts and the various political groupings in the Legislative Assembly. At the same time considerations were given to the suitability of Political leadership and experiences of the each elected representative for the portfolios that they lead are all important to the nation.

The Prime Minister is confident that with this selected team, they would be able to achieve an appropriate level of national unity in leading the executive body of the Government of Tonga. He feels that they will be able to run a Cabinet of collective responsibility but not as individuals.

The members of the Cabinet of Prime Minister of Lord Tu'ivakano are as follows, along with their respective portfolios;

  1. Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano - is also Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Information & Communications.
  2. Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice, Transport and Works.
  3. Lord Ma'afu - Minister for Lands, Survey, Natural Resources and Environment & Climate Change.
  4. Lord Vaea - Minister for Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries.
  5. Hon. Sunia Manu Fili - Minister for Finance.
  6. Hon. Sosefo Fe'aomoeata Vakata - Minister for Training, Employment, Youth and Sports.
  7. Hon. Dr. Viliami Uasike Latu - Minister for Police, Prisons & Fire Services.
  8. Hon. Lisiate ‘Aloveita ‘Akolo - Minister for Labour, Commerce and Industries.
  9. Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva - Minister for Health.
  10. Hon. ‘Isileli Pulu - Minister for Tourism.
  11. Hon. William Clive Edwards - Minister for Revenue Services and Public Enterprises.
  12. Dr. the Hon. ‘Ana Maui Taufe'ulungaki - Minister for Education, Women Affairs and Culture.
