12 November 2010   The U.S. Embassy's Consular section's second scheduled visit to Tonga to conduct visa interviews under the pilot non-immigrant visa program was successfully concluded last week.

From November 2-5, 2010, a vice consul from the Embassy provided Consular services to American citizens residing in Tonga and interviewed eligible non-immigrant visa applicants at the Fa'onelua Conference Center in Nuku'alofa, with security assistance provided by the Tonga Defense Services.

The non-immigrant visa program (NIV) was inaugurated at the end of March, this year when His Excellency Mr. Steve McGann, US Ambassador to Tonga opened the office in Nuku'alofa.

The Embassy anticipates the next visit to occur during the first quarter of 2011.  During the pilot program only certain categories of non-immigrant visa applicants will be considered for interviews in Tonga.  The U.S. Embassy must receive all information requested from interview candidates before the scheduled visit.  For eligibility requirements and detailed instructions on how to apply, please consult the U.S. Embassy's Tonga web site at http://tonga.usvpp.gov/.
