Fafa Island switched to solar power

26 July 2010

Fafa Island Resort has installed a sophisticated 15 kWp Solar Power System which generates electric power for the whole island. The system transfers the power from the sun in 230Volt AC Power.  The owners of Fafa Island Resort said that this has been a long cherished dream and it has finally come true.  Now the diesel generators serve only as a back up in bad weather conditions.

This major investment is not only a step to upgrade their guest services by eliminating noise and exhaust fumes on the island but also their contribution for a cleaner earth.

This is the first larger solar project in Tonga and could be an example for villages and tourist developments, especially on the outer islands.
