30tuipelehakefknofo.jpg - 62.13 KbTwo new Ministers were installed on Thursday 30, April, 2009 with a slight reshuffle of the Cabinet Ministers’ port folios which included one resignation have silenced the rumours circulated around the main island since last month. His Serene Highness, Prince Tu’ipelehake has become the new Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Forestry (MAFF). The people in his hereditary estate of Pelehake and ‘Alaki put on a special ceremony to mark the occasion. The Minister for Labour, Commerce and Industries, Hon. Lisiate ‘Akolo has been the Acting Minister for Agriculture for about two years. Mrs. ‘Eseta Fuafolau-‘a-Ngu Fulivai Fusitu’a was installed as the new Minister for Information and Communications at her residence “Taolalo-Sia” at Kolomotu’a. The Lord Chamberlain, Mrs. Viela Tupou read and conveyed the Letter of Appointment from his Majesty, King Siaosi Tupou V in the presence of the Nobles, Kalaniuvalu, Tu’iha’ateiho, Ve’ehala and ‘Eseta husband, Hon. Fusitu’a. The Royal Chaplain, Rev. Dr. ‘Ahio led the thanksgiving prayers together with Rev. Semisi Fonua, President of the Free Church of Tonga and her family and relatives from abroad and friends, fellow workers and colleagues.

30aprilminster installedesta.jpg - 52.20 KbThe Hon. ‘Eseta Fusitu’a takes over the Ministry of Information from the Hon. Afu’alo Matoto, the Minister for Finance and National Planning, Public Enterprises and Information. He was appointed to the latter in August 2007. The Hon. ‘Eseta Fusitu’a was the former Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet for several years until she was seconded late last year to become the Deputy Chair of the Commission for Constitutional and Electoral Reform, the post she has held until her new appointment today to be a Cabinet Minister.

The Minister of Police, Hon. Siaosi Taimani ‘Aho has taken up his new post as Tonga’s High Commissioner to New Zealand and the Deputy Prime Minister will now be the Acting Minister of Police so as the Prime Minister will add on to his responsibilities the Ministry for Defence and Foreign Affairs, vacated by the Hon. Tu’a Taumoepeau Tupou as he leaves to the US to become Tonga’s Permanent Secretary to the United Nations.

Lord Tuita who was formerly the Governor of Vava’u before becoming the Minister for MAFFF and Minister for Lands, Survey, Natural Resources and Environment will also be the Acting Governor for Vava’u. The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Hon. ‘Alisi Taumoepeau is resigning from her Cabinet post, to be effective as from May 30th.2009. Her replacement has yet to be announced.
