Japan’s grant assistance to renovate GPS Houma facilities

12  September 2012 His Excellency Mr. Yasuo Takase represented the Government of Japan’s at the handover ceremony to mark the completion of the renovation work to Houma’s Government Primary School  on 11 September.

The noble of Houma and Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. Lord Vaea was the Guest of Honour.

The project was a joint efforts of funding assistance from the Government of Japan, the Australian Government’s AusAID with the Government of Tonga through its Ministry of Education and Training.

As part of its Grassroot Grants Projects (GGP), Japan assisted with the upgrade of the School with a grant of finacial assistance of US US$106,858 (TOP$ 173,500.00) which enabled renovation work to classrooms and bathroom facility.

Promoting opportunities for all through education has also been a priority for the Australian Government, who contributed over TOP$220,000 for the renovations of the Houma Primary School.

The Ministry of Education and Training are tasked with objectives to develop and implement curriculum reform. Training of teachers and school based management in Tonga.

The Minister for Education and Training, Hon. Dr. ‘Ana Taufe’ulungaki also attended the ceremony with senior government officials from the Ministry present.
