Digital Production Equipments from Japan was handed over to Tonga Broadcasting Commission

1 July 2011

H.E. Mr. Yasuo Takase, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga officially handed over the digital TV production equipments funded by the Government of Japan on Friday, July 1, 2011, at Tonga Broadcasting Commission Main Studio.   Lady Eseta Fusitu'a, Chairperson, and other members of Board of Directors from TBC and media corps also attended the presentation event.

Japan's Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects, GCGP provided financial assistance of about US$96,000.00 for "The Project for the Improvement of TV program production equipment for Tonga Broadcasting Commission."   The equipments funded by the Government of Japan enable TBC to improve image quality of TV programs that TBC produces and efficiency of program production.

GCGP is designed to contribute to the promotion of culture, higher education activities and the preservation of cultural heritage in developing countries.   Especially, GCGP aims at meeting benefits and interests of the people by addressing grass-roots needs, like Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).  The GCGP scheme was introduced to the Kingdom of Tonga in 2010 and this project is the first case in the Kingdom of Tonga under this scheme.

The Japan Foundation also provided several Japanese TV programs to TBC in last February, this year.  It is hoped that these assistance in the field of media and broadcasting will contribute to further strengthen the friendly ties between the Governments and the people of Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.

Issued by the: Embassy of Japan, Nuku'alofa, 2011.
