Japan to assist technical Institutes in Tonga

17 March 2011 The Grant Contracts formalizing Japan's assistance towards three Technical Institutes in Nuku'alofa were signed between H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga and representatives of the respective projects on Thursday, March 17th at the Embassy of Japan in Tonga.

The Government of Japan will provide funds totaling US$242,655.00 for these projects. The funding will be made available through Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP).

Details of the funds are:

1. The Project for Upgrading of St. Joseph's Business College Road maintenance work, water system US$ 46,216.00
2. The Project for Upgrading of ‘Ahopanilolo Technical College Laundry training room, cooking training room. US$90,178.00
3. The Project for Upgrading the Automotive Mechanic Department of Tonga Institute of Science and Technology Training room , equipment US$106,261.00

Japan's assistance to these projects indicates its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the living standard and welfare of the people in the Kingdom of Tonga.

The GGP is designed to address basic human needs, which include, but not limited to, education, health, water supply, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.

It is hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga and Japan.
