Japan funds digital productions equipment for TBC

10 March 2011 The Grant Contract formalizing the provision of digital TV program production equipments for Tonga Broadcasting Commission (TBC) by the Government of Japan was signed between H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga and Honourable ‘Eseta Fusitu'a the Chairperson of the Tonga Broadcasting Commission Board of Directors at 2:00pm Thursday, March 10th 2011.

Japan's Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects, GCGP provided financial assistance of about US$96,000.00 for "The Project for the Improvement of TV program production equipment for Tonga Broadcasting Commission."

GCGP is a modified version of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP), designed to contribute to the promotion of culture, higher education activities and the preservation of cultural heritage at the grass-roots level in developing countries. GCGP scheme was introduced to the Kingdom of Tonga in 2010 and this project is the first to be funded under this scheme.

It is hoped that this assistance will contribute to further strengthen the friendly ties between the Governments and the people of Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.
