New upgraded water works for Vaini at T$149,000

30 November 2010 H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga officially opened the new upgraded water supply for Vaini Village at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 30th 2010.

The Government of Japan, under it's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) funded a total of US$81,950.00 (T$149,000) to cover the materials (pipe lines) and construction cost for "The Project for Upgrading of Water Supply System for Vaini Village."

Vaini village water supply was established in 1959 and pipe lines were after years of use discovered deteriorated. New pipe lines were laid out to more than 240 households in Vaini village under the project. The construction work began in September 2010 by Naryba Engineering Enterprises.

Japan's GGP is specifically designed to address basic needs at the grassroots level which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.

Japan is committed to assist the improvement of living standards and welfare of the people in the Kingdom of Tonga, which is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy. It is hoped that this assistance will contribute to further strengthen the friendly ties between the Government and the people of Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.
