23 July 2010   H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga marked the completion of The Project for Rehabilitation of ‘Eua High School in a handing-over ceremony on Friday, July 23, 2010 at the school.

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project, (GGP) funded a total of US$88,352 (TOP$160,000) to cover the material and construction cost for the project. The project was to replace broken louvers and louver frames of the entire ‘Eua High School building damaged by strong winds and cyclones in previous years. The construction work was carried out by Kiwi (Tonga) Limited.

In 1994, Government of Japan assisted ‘Eua High School with a complete school building, 2 halls, fully equipped Industrial Arts, Home Economics and 2 Science Laboratories.

Japan's assistance indicates its commitment to address basic needs at the grassroots level which include education, health, water supply, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.

It is hoped that this assistance will contribute to further strengthen the friendly ties between the Governments and the people of Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.
