The Ministry of Public Enterprises invites suitably qualified persons to apply for an appointment as a Public Enterprises director.

In putting together these Public Enterprises board, the Government (shareholder) will require the following qualities and skills together with the subsequent key principles to ensure a well-represented board:

  • Diversity (with a cross-section of people with different experiences);
  • Community representation (of communities or sectors where the PE is active); and
  • Gender (encouraging women applicants).

Applicants with the relevant skills and experiences are sought for the shared directors of the:

1. Property Management Sector Public Enterprises including Tonga Market Corporation Limited (TMCL), and Tonga Asset Managers and Associates Limited (TAMA) on a shared basis; and

Key Qualities of Board Members:

  • Understand the roles of the board and principles of good corporate governance;
  • Passionate about the PE’s aims and work;
  • Empowering and supportive;
  • Team commitment and team building;
  • Well respected (within organization and sector);
  • Leadership and vision;
  • Honesty and integrity; and
  • Accountability and transparency.

Key Skills and Experiences Required on the Board:

  • Familiarity with the content of the PE’s work and the issues affecting the sector it works in;
  • Business Communication;
  • Administration and corporate management;
  • Human resources management;
  • Organizational strategy and planning;
  • Monitoring and evaluating;
  • Accounting & Financial management;
  • Project management particularly relating to infrastructure development and investment;
  • Legal skills;
  • Marketing and public relations;
  • Business;
  • Risk Management; and
  • Sound knowledge of the Property Management sector.

Appointments to the shared directors of the PEs under the Property Management sector will not be effective until the 1st August 2017, when the positions are vacated.
