Alonga Center received New Year's donations from the Tonga Chinese Federation

25 January, 2012.  Tonga's Center for the Disabled, the Along Centre received food items worth TOP $4000 and cash donations of TOP $2000 from the Tonga Chinese Federation on January 24.

The donation was presented to Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho, President of the Alonga Centre by the Acting President of the Federation, Mr. Qian Xiyun.

Also joining Her Majesty at the presentation ceremony was the Tongan Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, who greeted Mr. Xiyun and some members of the Chinese Federation.

While the Chinese community has just celebrated the Chinese New Year (Year of the Dragon) on Monday, January 23, this donation was one of the symbols of their goodwill and love for the people of Tonga.

The following is a list of the donated items:

Food items:
40    box       Instant Noodles
10    box       Biscuit
10    bag       Washing Powder
10    box       Juice
5      box       UBM Breakfast Cracker
2     box        Weet-Bix
5      box       Fruit Juice
5      box       Tin Fish

Total valued around $4000 Pa`anga.

A spokesman from the Chinese Federation said that, "The Chinese community in Tonga wishes to extend their best wishes of long life to Her Majesty the Queen, wishing all the Tongan friends a happy, lucky and success in the year of the dragon."

The Federation would also like to wish all the members of the Along Center a Happy Chinese New Year.
