2010 Historical Portrait of King & Government
On August 2, 2010 during His Majesty King George Tupou V's Birthday Celebrations, this historical and breathtaking portrait was taken at the Royal Palace, Nuku'alofa. This is one of the first rare images of His Majesty together with members of HM's Cabinet Office and members of the House of Parliament (Legislative Assembly).
In a rare moment, it reflects the historical significance of the year, where Tonga is on a journey to new political reform with the upcoming November General Elections which will usher in a new set of Parliamentarians who will then nominate the new Prime Minister and duly informed the King. That Prime Minister-designate will then name his members of Cabinet from those elected into the House.
His Majesty is flanked by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Lord Tu'ilakepa (seated front-right) and nobles members of the Parliament. His Majesty is also photographed here with His Government's (Back-row- middle) Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Feleti Vaka'uta Sevele and his Deputy- Hon. Dr. Viliami Tau Tangi and the Ministers of the Crown together with the People's Representatives to the House.
