Developing Inclusive Disaster Management Strategy for Tonga Workshop

16th April 2018 The National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) under the Ministry of MEIDECC hosted a workshop on Developing Inclusive Disaster Management Strategy for Tonga in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (dFAT) and Australia Awards Fellowship Program on April 12-13, at Tungi Colonnade Conference Room.

The two-day workshop aimed to develop a framework on mainstreaming disability agenda in disaster management in keeping with the Sendai Framework and United Nations Conventions on the Right of Persons with Disability (UNCRPD).

The workshop was also set to develop and build participant’s understanding on the important of mainstreaming disability agenda in disaster management.

The workshop is part of a four weeks training program that was held earlier this year in Brisbane Australia attended by representative from NEMO, MIA, Tonga Red Cross, NATA, Civil Society Forum of Tonga, and the National Youth Congress.
