In this training, Refrigeration and Air Condition (RAC) Technicians on Good Serving Practices for Longer-Term, Low-GWP Alternatives in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Sector participated.

The National Ozone Unit of the Department of Climate Change in collaboration with Tonga Refrigeration Engineering Association hosts the training under the coordination of the Ministry of MEIDECC.

The three-day workshop aims to deliver updated knowledge and skills to technicians in the RAC servicing sector, to better understand the good servicing practices for the management and handling of longer-term and low global warming potential (GWP) alternatives in the RAC sector especially hydrocarbons.

Head of the National Ozone Division at the Department of Climate Change, Mr. Uikelotu Vunga said, “The training for RAC technicians comprises of both theoretical session and the practical session to allow the trainees to have hand-on experiences on the good servicing practices.”

He also said that creating awareness through this workshop will be providing necessary skills set that would prepare technicians to deal with the recent introduced technologies which expose technicians to occupational safety risk.

The workshop is funded by the Multilateral Fund for the implementation of the Montreal Protocol implemented by UN Environment, with MEIDECC as the executive agency in Tonga for the Ozone Depleting Substances Program.
