17th July 2017 Tonga will host for the first time the Pacific’s Third Regional Green Climate Fund Structured Dialogue in Nukuálofa this week from July 18-21.

The four-day regional meeting will bring together high-level ministerial and government dignitaries from participating countries in the region including representatives from GCF National Designated Authorities (NDA) and focal points, Accredited Entities, Readiness delivery partners, representatives from civil society and private sector organizations, GCF boards’ members and secretariat staff totalling in number to 140 participants.

The dialogue’s main focus is to “strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island countries and their involvement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and to accelerate the implementation of projects and programmes approved by the Fund.”  This forum will enable Pacific Island countries and Accredited Entities to share their experiences in engaging with the Fund across key areas.

The dialogue is expected to help Pacific Island countries identify Accredited Entities and private sector organisations to partner with, who will assist in developing their country’s funding proposals to address their respective climate action objectives and the Fund’s mandate.  This will be recognized in part through the sustained development of a Regional Roadmap initiated in 2016 GCF Regional Meeting that will help strengthen Pacific Island countries engagement with the GCF.

The meeting will be launched by the Deputy Prime Minister of Tonga and Minister of MEIDECC, Honourable Siaosi Sovaleni on July 18 at the Faónelua Convention Centre.  The dialogue will open with a High-Level Segment at Faónelua followed by a three-day Technical workshop at Tanoá International Hotel.
