A TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING REMAINS INFORCE FOR THE NIUAS.

SPOT WEATHER REPORT FROM THE MAIN ISLAND CENTRES AT 3PM TODAY

WARNINGS

A GALE WARNING REMAINS INFORCE FOR THE NIUAS LAND AREAS

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS INFORCE FOR THE REST OF TONGA.

A HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS INFORCE FOR THE NIUAS.

SITUATION

TROPICAL CYCLONE ELLA (CATEGORY 1) WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 14.5 SOUTH, LONGITUDE 174.5 WEST OR ABOUT 179KM NORTH-NORTHWEST OF NIUATOPUTAPU OR 169KM NORTHEAST OF  NIUAFO'OU AT 1:00PM THIS AFTERNOON. THE SYSTEM IS MOVING WEST AT ABOUT 4 KNOTS (8KM/HR). ON ITS CURRENT TRACK TROPICAL CYCLONE ELLA IS EXPECTED TO LIE ABOUT 115KM NORTH-NORTHWEST OF NIUAFO'OU OR 280KM WEST-NORTHWEST OF NIUATOPUTAPU AT 01:00AM TOMORROW MORNING.

FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT TOMORROW FOR TONGA

FOR NIUATOPUTAPU :

EAST TO SOUTHEAST WINDS 30-35 KNOTS (55-65KM/HR), POSSIBLY RISING UP TO

DAMAGING GALE FORCE WINDS WITH A SPEED OF 35-40 KNOTS (65-75KM/HR) .

CLOUDY AND OVERCAST WITH PERIODS OF RAIN, HEAVY AT TIMES WITH SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS, AND POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING.
