Civil Aviation Four Party Meeting - Tonga (15th and 16th February 2017)

17th March 2017 TONGAN An important “Four Party Meeting”, related to Tonga’s Civil Aviation Sector, was recently held in  Nuku’alofa, Tonga on the 15th and 16th of February, 2017.

The meeting consisted of delegations from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Civil Aviation Authority New Zealand (CAANZ), the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO), and the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Infrastructure Tonga.

The objective of this meeting was to assist Tonga sustainably improve aviation safety in the civil aviation sector.

The “Four Party Meeting” outcomes included:

  1. The strengthening of cooperation between the four parties, particularly in the area of sustainably improving civil aviation activities in Tonga.


  1. The signing of a Continuing Agreement of Cooperation between Tonga Ministry of Infrastructure, and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), for the continuing provision of technical support to Tonga.


  1. The signing of a Bilateral Agreement of Cooperation between CAAC and PASO, for the enabling of PASO to become familiar with the necessary technical aspects of China’s MA60 aircraft.

These outcomes support the aviation industry in Tonga and will strengthen the cooperation of Tonga with Civil Aviation New Zealand, Civil Aviation Administration China and Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO).
