In accepting the donation from the Embassy on behalf of the National Committee-CPAD Tonga, the Deputy Director for International and UNESCO Affairs in the Ministry of Education and Training, Mrs. Lucy Moala-Mafi thanked Mr. Sun and the Government of the People's Republic of China for their generous donation and support towards a worthy cause. Mr. Sun congratulated the National Committee for their commitment, foresight and attempts to nurture peace and promote momentum towards the building of peace which cannot be done overnight, but an ongoing process. He added that his Government endorsed the theme of the week, and re-iterated that every country must take a stand to pursue a Culture of Peace within and with their neighbours to achieve sustainable peace, sustainable development, the Millennium Development Goals and a Sustainable Future.
His Serene Highness, Prince Tungi will address the nation on the International Day of Peace on Friday, 21 September, 2012. Meanwhile, the Chair of the National Committee-CPAD Tonga, Lord Fakafanua is in Honiara, The Solomon Islands with other Tongan delegates from government and non-government sectors on peace-related training and high level meetings. Tonga's "Peace Week" has been widely promoted by the National Committee through radio and television programmes encouraging the public, churches, families, students, Government Ministries, State Owned Enterprises, Businesses, Sporting bodies and Media agencies to contribute to Peace Week through gestures of peace making and peace building. The contribution of everyone, whether big or small, will make a significant difference in our lives and society, today and tomorrow.
The National Committee-CPAD Tonga wishes everyone a "Happy, Enjoyable and Productive PEACE Week".
