It
is a happy coincidence that I was asked to open this extension on His Majesty
King George Tupou The Fifth's actual Birthday. Happy because His Majesty King Tupou The
Fourth's last official engagement before leaving Tonga for the last time was
connected to this extension. This is also my first engagement in Tonga. Both Lord Tangi and I, were involved in
Cabinet with the plans for this but in different capacities. Perhaps it goes to show in a way the
importance of continuity and forward thinking.
In a way, both Health and Education can be seen in this light. Continuity of our children who are the future of our Country. Continuity of cooperation with our Aid Partners. Continuity of the challenge for the future generations to excel.
I should like to thank the Government and People of Japan for the beautiful and Final Phase of the Development and Refurbishment of Vaiola Hospital. Also worthy of mention, are the Contractor Kitano Construction and the Consultants Nihon Sekkei both of Japan. And, we acknowledge the hard work of JICA. Our Aid Partners as we do, take a holistic cooperative view of how we can assist each other. Ranging from Water projects to Schools to this Hospital. Indeed historically the Tongan Government Budget has always been heavily weighed towards Health and Education.
