Governor-General Quentin on a 3-day visit to Tonga

28 July 2011 The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC visit to the Kingdom of Tonga. The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, and His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, will undertake a State Visit to the Kingdom of Tonga from Sunday 31 July to Tuesday 2 August 2011.

This will be the Governor-General's first visit to Tonga.

The Governor-General will have a private audience with His Majesty King George Tupou V and attend a State Dinner.

The Governor-General will represent Australia at the King's Birthday Parade in honour of His Majesty's birthday and the anniversary of the King's Coronation on Monday 1 August.

The Governor-General will also receive a call by the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano.

During the visit, the Governor-General will visit the Nukunuku Health Centre which has been refurbished with Australian government assistance and the Nuku'alofa Government Primary School to observe a teaching demonstration using Australian-funded curriculum materials.

The Governor-General will also meet Australian volunteers working in Tonga, as well as Tongan recipients of the Governor-General's sports scholarship awards.
