24 January 2011 The Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano first official visit to Vava'u and Ha'apai received a warm reception from the Public Servants, District and Town Officers and the general public of Vava'u and Ha'apai.
The Prime Minister was greeted by the Acting Governor of Vava'u, Lord Sevele at Vava'u and also, Lord Havea Tu'iha'angana in Ha'apai followed with a traditional 'ha'unga' and a prayer in Vava'u by Fotu and Afu and subsequently in Ha'apai by Fetu'ungingila ‘o e ‘Otufelenite and Fisi'iniu ‘o Ha'angana.
During his visit, the Prime Minister met with Public Servants, District & Town Officers and members of the general public, in his speech to both islands, he said that, " In this millennium, Tonga has reach a milestone in its political reform to a more democratic form of Government under his leadership." He expects that over the next few weeks, the priorities of the Government will be finalized and it will be transmitted through their respective Ministers and departments, as development programmes.
He pleaded with the public services to cooperate and work together within the laws of Tonga, to achieve the ultimate goals of the Government for the people of Tonga, a healthy life, peace, security and prosperity.
The Prime Minister also visited major projects in Vava'u such as the Vaipua Causeway, Headquarter of Tonga Defence Services, Pangaimotu bridge, agricultural roads and Halaevalu Wharf. In Ha'apai he visited the Foa Causeway, Pangai Foreshore, Pangai roads and Taufa'ahau Wharf.
