04 November, 2010. The Government of Japan announced on 3rd of November 2010 that His Majesty the Emperor of Japan presents a decoration, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Mr. Paula Sunia Bloomfield of the Kingdom of Tonga in recognition of his contribution to Japanese language education in Tonga.

Mr. Bloomfield led the policy making in education between 1982 and 2005 as the director for Education and the Minister for Education, during which he has promoted Japanese language education in the Kingdom of Tonga in collaboration with Japanese volunteers.

Now, Japanese is the second most popular foreign language in the Kingdom of Tonga after English and the spread of Japanese language education has led to deeper understanding of Japan and Japanese culture among Tongan students, which is a contributing factor to close and friendly relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.

Following the presentation of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Solver Rays to Mrs. Tupou in April, this will be another commemorable event in 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Tonga and will contribute to further strengthen close and cordial relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga.

The presentation ceremony of the aforementioned award will take place in due course.
