H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase's speech at the Certificate Ceremony at the University of the South Pacific, Tonga Campus.

It is my great pleasure and honor to be here today to present the certificates in Level 1 Computing. I am pleased to see this program is contributing to encourage Tongan people to learn computing and to give them more opportunities in life and work.

Education, especially computer skill, has no age limit, and it has proved worldwide to be a great asset in our everyday lives such as researching or communication. Education, and Information and Communication Technology are part of the main priority areas in Japan's Official Development Assistance program in Tonga.

Under this Project, the Government of Japan provided USP Tonga Center with computers and networking equipments in 2003.  After the upgrade of Information Processing facilities for USP Net, the Seminar on "Economic Impact of E-Commerce Strategies for Marketing Small Micro Tourism Enterprises" was held at USP Tonga Center in 2004.

I am quite happy to be present here to observe this fruitful outcome of Japan's aforementioned Project. I am also happy that the Government of Japan decided to provide funding for the continuous assistance based at "Japan-Pacific ICT Center" from 2010 to 2019 through JICA.

The close and warm relationship between the people of Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga is a great contribution to Japan's ongoing assistances. I hope that the recipients of the computer certificate today will utilize the knowledge and skill acquired from this program for your future work and thus for further development of the Kingdom of Tonga.
