25 October 2010 The People's Republic of China's new Ambassador to the Kingdom of Tonga, His Excellency Mr. Wang Donghua arrived in Tonga last Tuesday, and was cordially received at the airport by Tonga's Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Va'inga Tone, Tonga-China Friendship Association Vice-Chairman Ho Mo, staff from the Chinese Embassy and Chinese entrepreneurs in Tonga.
His Excellency Wang Donghua met with Tonga's Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Va'inga Tone on Thursday 21 October, 2010 to present his credentials to Tonga.
Mr. Tone said that, "Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, bilateral relations have developed rapidly".
"China's social, economic, and educational amongst other assistances given to Tonga have helped in improving the standard of living for the people of Tonga, and the Government of Tonga will continue to maintain close cooperation with the Chinese Embassy, to promote bilateral friendship and a fruitful ties," the Secretary maintained.
The Ambassador also met with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCEC) project team who affirmed His Excellency of the progress of the Nuku'alofa Redevelopment projects, by inspecting the buildings under construction, terminal and ancillary facilities. HE Mr. Donghua also greeted the construction workers and was very pleased with the successful completion of the construction projects which assures China's contribution for local economic and social development in Tonga. Two of these major construction sites are the newly-built complex of Taumoepeau Building on the corner of Salote and Fatafehi Road as well as the Sanft Building on Taufa'ahau Road.
