E-mail Print PDF

31st January, 2010. A Tonga Tourism Summit hosted by the Ministry of Tourism to New Zealand and Australia will take place from January 31st-5th February 2011.

His Majesty's Cabinet approved on 26th January, 2011 that Government would meet costs for the upcoming Tonga Tourism Taskforce Dialogue.

This summit is an initiative by the Ministry of Tourism along with Private Sectors Organizations engaged in Tour Wholesalers and Operators who are selling Tonga packages and to airlines providing services to Tonga.

This summit will enable both the Ministry and the taskforce team from Tonga to present new developments, outline new marketing directions to promote Tonga to our key markets, New Zealand and Australia. Results of this meeting will be incorporated to finalise a destination market plan for 2011-2013.

Air arrivals from both countries saw a slight decline by last October. Tonga was also outspent by its Pacific Islands competitor. The Tonga Tourism Support Project funded under NZAID Program with World Bank will enhance quality of tourism operations and improve destination marketing efforts.

The meetings have been scheduled for the 2nd of February for New Zealand in Auckland and in Sydney, Australia on the 3rd of February.

The Tourism Task Force team includes Sakopo Lolohea, CEO of the Ministry of Tourism, Paul Davis , Tourism Advisor, Ministry of Tourism, Sandradee Fifita, Ministry of Tourism, Reece Proudfoot, Tourism Tonga and Mr Saia Moehau of Tonga Tourist Association/Tonga Hotel Association.
