WTO established Reference Centre at the MLCI

The Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industries has been privileged with the technical assistance of the World Trade Organisation  (WTO) in establishing a modernized WTO Reference Centre where any relevant information on the WTO can be accessed via the WTO internet site, on CD-ROMs, in print, as well as in electronic format.

The Reference Centre promotes the multilateral trading system locally and globally; and is readily available for government departments, private sector, civil society groups, academics and interested stakeholders.

The Honourable Minister, ‘Isileli Pulu, officially opened the new WTO Reference Centre on Wednesday 21st September, 2011 at the Ministry of Labour, Commerce & Industries Conference Room. Dr. Edwini Kessie, Counsellor on the Council and Trade Negotiations Committee Division of the WTO, represented the WTO in the official opening and facilitated a two days Seminar on the WTO and the Doha Development Agenda.

Government representatives from various Ministries, private sector, civil society and other stakeholders participated in the official opening and the two days seminar.

The Reference Centre is fully equipped with 3 computers, 3 scanners, 3 printers, one heavy duty multi-purpose photocopy machine in addition to trade and trade related resource materials. The equipments were estimated to be at a total of TOP$35, 000.
