10 May 2011 The Pasifiki Trade Fair is pleased to start this year's fair with the Pasifiki Trade Fair: Vava'u Lahi 2011 to be held at Neiafu on 19th May 2011 as part of the official FORUM Trade Ministers meeting that is about to take place.

"Following on the trade fair's success over the past years in Tongatapu, we have always wanted to take it to the islands and Vava'u being a popular destination and host to this year's FORUM Trade Ministers Meeting, we saw an opportunity especially since the Trade Commissioners will be there," says Kaitu'u Fotu, Chairman of the Pasifiki Trade Fair committee.

The program invites private sector participation in an event jointly owned by the Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industries and the Tonga Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCI). Beginning with a seminar on 18th May, participants can register for this free program to hear presenters from the Tonga Development Bank, JK Chartered Accountants and the Pacific Island Trade & Invest trade commissioners from countries where our goods and services are often marketed to.

"Businesses need this. The Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industry is spearheading efforts on the island to prepare for this and have been instrumental in securing resources for this event which is a partnership with the private sector organization TCCI," says Kaitu'u Fotu.

On Thursday 19th May, the marina area on the harbor will come alive with displays by participants from all over Tonga. The New Zealand High Commission Head of Mission Fund has generously contributed to enabling participants from other outer islands to participate. Pacific Island Trade and Invest has pledged assistance with the award giving ceremony for the booth competition and the Pasifiki Trade Fair thanks the FORUM for their ongoing support, Tonga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Government of Tonga and the Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industry. Sponsors include Tonga Development Bank.

Registrations close this week and can be made to 21-911.

The theme of "Everything is bigger in Vava'u!" is in recognition of the spirit of the people of Vava'u and the promise it holds.
