The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Food and Fisheries has once again re-activated its initiative in encouraging the promotion of agricultural produce and livestock farming by working together with farmers and community villages and towns.
Tonga's Agricultural Show has been a popular event among farmers in the past, held every two years in Tongatapu and the outer islands, and this year, ‘Eua launched the first Agricultural Show in ‘Ohonua on 16 September.
The time table for rest of the Agricultural shows in the outer islands will be held on the following dates:
The Tonga Agricultural show is a public event showcasing agricultural crops and harvest, animals, fresh food produce, equipment and displays associated with agriculture and animal husbandry.
It shows an important part of the Tongan livelihood where a large majority of the living income for many households is from agricultural farming, livestock herding and fisheries.
The Shows features competitions and field days for each category of the event in agricultural farming, livestock husbandry, housekeeping, and ocean fishing.
The ‘Eua Agricultural Show was attended by the Hon. Lord Vaea, Minister for Agriculture, Food, Forestry and Fisheries, Hon. Sunia Manu FIli, Finance and National Planning Minister, the Hon. Lord Lasike, Speaker of Parliament and ‘Eua Noble Representative, as well as MAFFF Director, Dr. Vailala Matoto among other government officials.
Prizes were awarded to nearly fifty categories of winners who registered for the ‘Eua Agricultural Show and participated in the booth display set up at the ‘Eua High School in ‘Ohonua.
