Prime Minister completes New Zealand State Visit

17 August 2011  Lord Tu'ivakano, Tonga's Prime Minister has completed his four-day State Visit to New Zealand last week.

The Prime Minister, who is also Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Information and Communications met with New Zealand's Prime Minister, the Right Honourable John Key in Wellington before attending a session of the Pacific Leader's Forum Lecture Series hosted by Prime Minister John Key at the University of Auckland's Fale Pasifika last Thursday.

While in New Zealand, the Lord Prime Minister also held bilateral talks with New Zealand Foreign Minister Honourable Murray McCully, before meeting with Defence Minister Honourable Dr Wayne Mapp, as well as Opposition Leader Honourable Phil Goff later in the day.

This week, the Prime Minister is currently in Sydney, Australia where he met with the President of the World Bank, Mr Robert Zoellick, on Monday 15 August. The President indicated the World Bank's support for Tonga's high-speed internet through its fibre-optic cable project.

The Prime Minister is expected to call on the Australian Prime Minister, the Honourable Julian Gillard this Thursday 18 August in Canberra, as well as Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Affairs Honourable Richard Marles, Foreign Minister Honourable Rudd and the Tonga High Commission based in Australia.

The Prime Minister returns to Tonga on 22 August.
