Cyber Challenge Task Force meets

08 April 2014 In December 2013, His Majesty’s Cabinet approved the establishment of the Government’s Cyber Challenge Task Force to address the Kingdom’s cyber challenges issues. This indicates Government’s recognition of the need to better coordinate its efforts in addressing the growing concerns of cybersecurity, safety and criminal activities in cyberspace.

The Task Force is chaired by the Honourable Prime Minister, Lord Tu’ivakano as Minister for Information and Communications. The initiative was submitted to Cabinet by the Minister for

Public Enterprises, Hon. Fe’ao Vakata, who is the Deputy Chair of the Task Force Committee.

Membership of the Committee will be derived from various Government Ministries, including the Ministries of Police, Education and Health and the Office of the Attorney General. Key stakeholders from the telecommunications providers, private sector businesses and non-government organizations will also partake. The Task Force will report to His Majesty’s Cabinet quarterly.

The established Task Force is practical step for Tonga, to mobilize its resources, identify key challenges, and coordinate relevant programmes, working groups, review laws in order to better prepare Tonga’s Accession to the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime

The first meeting of the Task Force was held in March 17, presided by the Honourable Prime Minister.
