His Majesty King Tupou VI Officially opens new Vuna Wharf

10 December 2012. His Majesty King Tupou VI unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbons to mark the opening of the new Vuna Wharf.

In 1906 Vuna Wharf was opened for international shipping. In 1982 Vuna Wharf was suspended due to damage caused by Cyclone Isaac.

Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano said that the launching of this historical and momentous Vuna is a cornerstone to our Strategic Development Framework.

He also stated Vuna Wharf will be a legacy of our generation and pillar of hope for Tonga's future.

Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano represented His Majesty's Government and the People of Tonga by acknowledge gratitude His Excellency, Mr Wang Donghua and the Government of the People's Republic of China for the assistance and generous funding of this project.

He also gives his best wishes to Ports Authority for taking Vuna Wharf forward under their management and guidance.
