Department of Communications Conducts Annual Ship Radio Inspections in Vava'u Island, 2nd-11th July, 2025
The Department of Communications has successfully completed its annual ship radio inspections in Vava'u Island as part of its ongoing commitment to maritime safety and regulatory compliance.
Mr. Pomaama Liu and Ms. Malia Vea, a specialized technician from the Department of Communications, traveled to Vava'u Island to conduct comprehensive ship radio inspections for all vessels operating
in the area.
The inspections ensure that all vessels comply with international maritime radio communication standards and safety regulations. These regular assessments are crucial for maintaining effective communication systems that support safe navigation, emergency response, and coordination between vessels and shore-based authorities.
This annual inspection program is part of the Department of Communications' ongoing activities to maintain high standards of maritime safety throughout the Kingdom of Tonga. The inspections are required by radiocommunication and spectrum regulations to verify that ship radio equipment is functioning properly, meets technical specifications, and complies with both national and international maritime communication requirements.
The successful completion of these inspections demonstrates Tonga's commitment to maritime safety and its adherence to international maritime communication protocols. The Department of Communications commits to diligently ensure all vessels operating within Tongan waters maintain proper radio communication capabilities.
