TROPICAL CYCLONE WILMA IS NOW LIES JUST TO THE FAR SOUTHWEST OF TONGATAPU.

FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT TONITE FOR ALL TONGA:

MODERATE TO FRESH NORTHEAST WINDS OVER TONGATAPU,'EUA AND HA'APAI. ELSEHWERE, LIGHT TO MODERATE NORTHEAST WINDS.

MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SOME SHOWERS WITH HEAVY FALLS EXPECTED OVER MOST PLACES.

OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY:

MODERATE EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS ALL OVER THE GROUP.MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS OVER MOST PLACES.

A TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING

A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE WESTERN HA'APAI GROUPS AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS.  A STORM WARNING IS IN FORCE FOR TONGATAPU AND 'EUA AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS. A GALE WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE REST OF HA'APAI AND VAVA'U.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WILMA (CATEGORY 3) CENTER WAS LOCATED NEAR 20 DECIMAL 2 SOUTH 174 DECIMAL 6 WEST OR ABOUT 50KM SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HA'APAI OR ABOUT 120KM NORTH-NORTHEAST OF NUKU'ALOFA AT 11:00AM THIS MORNING.

CLOSE TO ITS CENTRE THE CYCLONE IS ESTIMATED TO HAVE AVERAGE WINDS UP TO 65 KNOTS WITH MOMENTARY GUST UP TO 90 KNOTS.

THE CYCLONE IS NOW MOVING SOUTH-SOUTHWEST AT ABOUT 15KNOTS.ON THIS TRACK THE CYCLONE CENTER IS EXPECTED TO LIE NEAR 430KM SOUTHWEST OF VAVA'U OR ABOUT 350KM SOUTHWEST OF LIFUKA BY AROUND 9:00PM TODAY.

FOR THE WESTERN HA'APAI GROUPS AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS:
VERY DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE FORCE WINDS FROM THE SOUTHEAST TURNING NORTHEAST LATER WITH AVERAGE SPEEDS OF 65 KNOTS GUSTING TO 90KTS. HEAVY RAIN AND SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS.SEAS INCREASING TO PHENOMINAL WITH DAMAGING HEAVY SWELL.HEAVY RAIN . FLOODING INCLUDING SEA FLOODING OF LOW LYING COASTAL AREAS EXPECTED.

FOR TONGATAPU AND 'EUA.
EXPECT STORM FORCE WINDS OF 50KT TO 55KT GUSTING TO 80KT FROM THE EAST TO SOUTHEAST TURNING NORTHEAST LATER.RAIN BECOMING FREQUENT AND HEAVY AT TIMES WITH SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS AND FLOODING INCLUDING SEA FLOODING  OF LOW LYING AREAS EXPECTED.

FOR THE REST OF HA'APAI GROUP AND VAVA'U.
DAMAGING GALE FORCE WINDS WITH AVERAGE SPEEDS OF 40KTS AND MOMENTARY GUST TO 60KTS.PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN AND SQUALLY THUNDESTORMS.FLOODING INCLUDING SEA FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS EXPECTED.

NORTH TO NORTHWEST WINDS FRESH AND GUSTY.CLOUDY PERIODS WITH A FEW SHOWERS.
