Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga

4 January 2010 The Investiture of the New Year's Honours will continue tomorrow with the installation of Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi to the title of Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga in recognition of his dedicated service to the Crown and to the Kingdom of Tonga.

Earlier on 30 December, 2010, His Majesty King George Tupou V, granted the life peerages to three other peers to be appointed as Lord Sevele, Lord Matoto and Lord Tangi.

The Life peers will enjoy the privileges and benefits of a Noble of the Realm.

His Lordship is a former Vice President of Fiji and a former Judge of the High Court and is presently engaged in the Solomon Islands as one of the two International Commissioners with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Lord Madraiwiwi is a distinguished aristocrat and son of the late Dr. Ratu Dovi who, with his brother the late Sir Lala Sukuna, were the sons of Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi who married Adi Litiana Maopa, the eldest daughter of Tui Nayau.(Tui Lau).   Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi was the son of Ratu Kamisese Mara Kapaiwai who fought at Kaba and later died in Bau during the Reign of Ratu Seru Cakobau.

The Investiture ceremony took place at the Royal Palace today and Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga was also awarded the honour of a Grand Gross of the Royal Order of Queen Salote.  In attendance at the ceremony were the Lord Prime Minister, Baron Fielakepa, Lord Dalgety, Lord Tupou, the Lord Chief Justice and, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice.
